The Wilbraham & Monson Academy Boys' Varsity Golf team was victorious over Suffield Academy and Westminster School April 12 at Suffield Country Club.

And, not only did the Titans win their match, but the Academy was just two points away from matching the lowest score shot by the Titans (194) during Coach Doug Hutcheson's tenure at WMA.

Finishing with a team score of 196, the Titans were led by Eddie Morin '18 with a 2-under-par 34, while Peter Bowie '18 and Jack Godin '20 followed with 38s. Suffield was second with a 201, followed by a 203 from Westminster.

Eddie, a returning player from the 2016 season, also served as the match medalist.

"I was hitting everything really well," Morin said. "I stuck all my approach shots to the green close. I had three birdies and one bogey, so I was really happy with how I played."

Along with Eddie, Peter and Jack, Kenneth Harroy '17 shot a 42, Dakota Wheeler '17 a 44 and Hays Maynard '18 added 48.

Coach Hutcheson was proud of the hard work his team brought to the match against Suffield and Westminster and hopes that mindset will continue for the rest of the season.

Eddie said, "Everyone played really well. It was difficult adjusting to the weather at first because of the rain and wind, but the team was able to fight through it and pull off a victory for WMA."

"This win was the first of the season," said Peter, who has been on the team for five seasons. "It gave us the momentum and confidence to become a strong team on and off the green."

Peter and Eddie believe the team will pull off more wins to come in 2017.

"I think that this will be our best season in a long time," Peter said.

"I am very proud to get my first win as the only freshman on a team with a great group of guys," said Jack, who is a new member of the team, "I have learned what it feels like to be a part of a team and am excited to continue the season."
