Matt Robertson '17 was finally able to stay healthy for a full football season and show the type of player he could be, which in Matt's case, is a very good football player.
Taking full advantage of a postgraduate year at Wilbraham & Monson Academy, Matt signed a Letter of Commitment April 27 to attend and play Division II football at Southern Connecticut State University.
"Coach (Tom) Godek and I really connected about goals toward school, and football goals," said Matt, who battled shoulder injuries and concussions in high school. "When I visited the campus it felt like a second home, just like it did when I visited WMA.
"This is the happiest I've been deciding for a school. I'm looking forward to my career either as a business or science major, and a football player as well."
Matt enjoyed an outstanding PG year for the Titans, who went 7-1 during the regular season to earn a spot in a Super Bowl. Matt started at tackle on both sides of the ball.
"Matt was a big piece of our team this year, especially on the line," Coach Jeff Vartabedian said. "He played virtually every snap on offense and defense. I'm thrilled with the season he had. We couldn't have done it without him and had the season we did. I'm thrilled for his opportunity at Southern Connecticut.
"I'm happy the PG year provided him with the opportunity he was looking for. He's ready to go."
Following the season, Matt was selected to the All-Class B Independent First Team.
"As a team this year, we did really well," Matt said. "I couldn't be happier with what Coach V and the WMA society has provided me here. I went through a lot of trouble with injuries in football, and this year, to end it off strong was amazing."
