The good news just keeps coming for Wilbraham & Monson Academy's Wenyen Gabriel '16, who was just one of 21 basketball players in the country to be named to the roster for the Jordan Brand Classic.

Wenyen will play in the 15th annual game on a big basketball stage – at the Barclays Center in Brooklyn April 15. He was the only player from New England selected.

"It's an honor," said Wenyen, a 6-foot-10 forward. "It shows how hard work pays off. Being able to play for the Jordan Brand . . . it's a huge brand. I haven't bought a pair of Jordans before because I couldn't afford it but now I get to play in the game. It's exciting. It's another opportunity to show what I can do."

Wenyen, who was notified he made the team through snail mail in early March, will play with three future teammates at the University of Kentucky. A Jordan representative presented him with a banner at the Academy March 31.

"This will be fun and my chance to play with my future teammates," he said.

Wenyen will play in the Jordan game six days after he competes at the Nike Hoop Summit in Oregon as a member of the USA Basketball Junior National Select Team.

"Playing for USA Basketball is huge," Wenyen said. "I will be able to play with my point guard for Kentucky, so that will be great. There's going to be 30 NBA scouts so it's a chance for me to show off what I can do. I plan to go there and play hard – play with a high motor and do the things I'm good at, and play off that. It's exciting. It's my first step into the college area; my new career."
