In her first crew competition of the fall season, Wilbraham & Monson Academy's Allie Collins-Anderson '16 placed second in two races at the Rockrimmon Regatta in Springfield Sept. 12.

Allie competed in women's 16-18 3K single skull (two oars) as well as a 5K four-person sweep (single oar).

Even though her mechanics were occasionally off in the single, Allie was able to post one of her best 3K times in the four years she has been competing in crew.

"It wasn't my best race by any means," Allie explained. "My form wasn't very good. I wasn't happy with my performance but I lucked out with the competition that was there. I would have liked to have done better. But it was the first race of the season and I hadn't been on the water in a single for a few weeks so I was happy with my time in that regard."

Peter Labbe '17 also placed well, taking third in the men's 16-18 3K single skull in his first competition in that particular event.

"It certainly didn't feel physically comfortable but because I spent so much time in a single this summer there weren't any surprises," Peter said. "With the other people in the race, I did about as well as I expected to do, if not a little more."

Due to a mix-up, Peter stepped up and served as a coxswain in a men's masters four-person race, with his shell placing second.

Allie and Peter were competing as members of the Pioneer Valley Riverfront Club. WMA's official Crew season is in the spring.
