Even though competitions against other schools haven't even begun, the Wilbraham & Monson Academy Riflery program is already expanding its horizons.

Three members of WMA Riflery competed at the New England Prone Championships in New Hampshire Dec. 12.

Competing against 30 shooters of all ages in the Iron Sights category, Erika Convery '19 finished third, coming in behind two experienced adult men. Erika finished a half-point out of second place, and five points away from the winner's spot. Nick Spellman '19 placed 10th, and Ryan Cordeiro '21 16th.

Quotes

Coach Bill Passy regarding Erika's performance: "Erika's performance was more impressive due to the fact that she sighted herself while shooting. Usually our shooters work with a teammate or coach who sights for them. Self sighting adds another level of complexity to shooting."

Coach Passy regarding the team competing at the N.E. Indoor Prone Championships: "This makes a huge statement about how far our program has come in the last several years. Having kids compete in these prestigious matches and fare so well shows us that we are moving in the right direction. It's an honor to have these kids represent WMA and the Riflery program."

Erika regarding her performance at the competition: "I think I performed better than I expected. After my first target, I was sighted in almost perfectly. I think I only got two nines (of 10) on the second target, and after each relay I got more and more focused. By the end I had almost perfect 10s on all of my targets."
