Alana Perkins '19 took a big chance 15 months ago, leaving her home in Wisconsin to come to Wilbraham & Monson Academy in hopes of bettering her future.

Alana's future became much better Nov. 15 when she signed her National Letter of Intent to attend and play Division I collegiate basketball at Bryant University in Rhode Island.

Along with her family from Wisconsin, the 5-foot-8 guard was surrounded by her teammates and many friends during her signing ceremony at the WMA Athletic Center.

Quotes

Alana on signing her National Letter of Intent: "It's taken years for me to do this. I've worked hard since fifth grade. I wouldn't say college was a goal of mine when I was younger, but once I got to high school I realized I wanted to play college basketball. Signing today was seeing all the hard work pay off, and being done with the college process."

Alana on what she liked about Bryant: "I definitely liked the coaching staff a lot. When I went on my unofficial visit they really impressed me. When I think about Bryant, I like everything about it – the basketball, education and facilities are nice to me."

Alana on being part of the WMA Girls' Basketball team: "My teammates at WMA are very supportive about everything. We pick each other up. They know when I'm down and they're really good about being positive around me because I can be hard on myself. It's a great family to be a part of."

Coach Durelle Brown on Alana's on-court talents: "What makes her special on the court is her drive, and, not that she wasn't coachable before, because she was, but now she hears me. She is determined to be a very good basketball player."
