Wilbraham & Monson Academy's Mariel Picknelly '20 released a new original song and video Aug. 2.

In less than four weeks, "No Mirrors," which was exclusively written by Mariel, had more than 80,000 views on YouTube.

Quote from Mariel regarding the inspiration behind "No Mirrors:"

"The song is about younger girls being able to be comfortable with the internal raw you and not necessarily what's on the outside. I want other kids to be able to love every side of them, not just the outside. The message I'm trying to get out there is the internal raw you is the real you."

Quote from Mariel regarding making a professional video:

"It took us 16 hours to do. It was a long and tiring day but it was one of the best days of my life. We used all of these different mirrors to create a cool effect. We had a crew of 50 people, and I got to be a part of everything little thing. Everything was my blood, sweat and tears, which was different because now I'm older and I'm taking things into my own hands. Now people are starting to listen to me because I'm not just a little girl anymore."

Mariel's Fast Facts:

  • Changed her performing last name to Darling, based on the surname from "Peter Pan"
  • Has recorded more than 20 original songs
