Lukas Stanton '18 hasn't made much of a splash in the pool this season, which in his case means he has made a splash on the Wilbraham & Monson Academy record board.
With two meets still to go in the season, Lukas has erased both of his diving records with two new standards.
"It feels good," Lukas said. "Unless we get an amazing diver, I don't see them going down anytime soon."
Lukas smashed both of his previous marks. At a meet at Williston Northampton School Feb. 14, he posted a six-dive score of 273, topping his mark from last season by 45.5 points. Three weeks prior to that, at the Suffield Academy Invitational Diving Meet, which included 11 dives, he obliterated his previous high of 367 with a 417.
At Williston, Lukas was on, not only scoring very well for each dive but also doing so with challenging attempts.
"I wanted to set the record higher," said Lukas, who plans to dive in college. "If I didn't do any of them well, I wouldn't have had a chance, but I did them all well.
"After the third dive, which was my front two-and-a-half, I didn't think I did it that well, but the judges thought I did and they gave me a good score. After that, I didn't get anything below a six (out of 10). It was my last six-dive high school meet so I was trying to get the best score I could."
The Suffield meet was a rare opportunity for an 11-dive competition, which are typically reserved for the championship season. Lukas nailed most of his dives, reaching his goal of surpassing 400 points.
"There were one or two dives I could have done better, but all the other dives were some of the best ones I've done," he said.
Lukas has a pair of 11-dive meets remaining: the Western New England Championship Meet at Hopkins School and the New England Championship Meet at Williston.
