It's the championship time of season for the Wilbraham & Monson Academy Wrestling program, meaning the team is typically going against the best of the best.

A number of WMA wrestlers returned from one championship with medals, and the Titans hope to do the same again in the near future.

Seven Titans placed in the top six at the Class A Championship Meet, held Feb. 10 at Phillips Exeter Academy in New Hampshire.

"The team did well overall," Coach Drew Shea said. "We had wrestlers in half of the weight classes place or medal – seven out of the 14 came away with some hardware."

Leading the way for the Academy at the Class A meet were Kizuki Koyasu '20 and Mark Anderson '20, who both reached their final and placed second.

Other WMA wrestlers placing in the top six included: Alex Kuglemass '19 (third, 120), Anthony Arnieri '18 (fourth, 160), Giovanni Biondo '21 (sixth, 126), Nathan Towle '18 (sixth, 195) and Marvin Morris '21 (sixth, 220).

Mark, who sports a 21-2 record for the season, pinned his first opponent and beat another 9-4 to qualify for the 170-pound final.

"I think I performed well," Mark said. "At practice I've been working on getting my endurance up and getting in better shape for New England meet."

Kizuki matched his runner-up performance from last year in the 106 division.

"I think I did pretty well," said Kizuki, who has one loss on the season. "I hope to make nationals this year. I have to place in the top six at the New England meet."

Four WMA wrestlers - Kizuki, Adam, Anthony and Mark - advanced to the New England Independent Schools Wrestling Association Championship, taking place Feb. 16-17 at Tabor Academy.
