A sign of a good team is always wanting more.
Coming off an undefeated season and a league championship, the Wilbraham & Monson Academy Riflery team already wants more.
In its first match of the season, the Titans defeated visiting Xavier High School of Connecticut 947-934 Jan. 6.
"The team had some doubt going into the match, with the short practice week and also missing a couple of key shooters," Coach Bill Passy explained. "We performed well under the circumstances, but we all know we will have to perform better if we want to achieve our goals."
The meet pitted two of the best teams in the league against each other in the opener. Xavier also went unbeaten during the 2016-17 regular season. After an alignment, the teams are now in the same league, meaning they will face each other a second time (Jan. 24).
Dan Wesson '18 led the way for WMA, posting a 197 (out of 200) to win the match. Erika Convery '19 placed second for the Titans, followed by Zihan "Leo" Liu '18 (188), Nick Spellman '19 (185) and Mike Carson '18 (184).
